Found or Lost a Pet?

What do I do if I’ve lost my pet?

return to owner agreement
  • Message us on our Facebook Page with a photo of your pet, the location where they went missing, and when they were last seen: Rushville Animal Shelter
  • Check our Facebook Page, Rush County Lost and Found Group, and the Anything and Everything Rushville and Rush County page for reported found animals.
  • Make a post to the Rush County Lost and Found Group and to the Anything and Everything Rushville and Rush County page
  • Check all local and surrounding city and town Facebook pages, including garage sale pages.
  • Check any shelters that are in counties close to you.
  • If your pet is microchipped, call the microchip company and make sure the chip is registered and has the most up-to-date and correct information for you. Many shelters and veterinarians will call the microchip company only to be told the chip wasn’t registered or the information is out of date. The microchip company will record who called to report the pet found, though.
    • If your pet is not microchipped, but you find them, bring them to us for a microchip! More information can be found here.
    • We also offer engraved tags!
  • If your pet were wearing a Rabies tag, call the veterinarian clinic that provided that vaccine and make sure your information is up to date and correct.
  • File a lost report on the following websites:
  • Create flyers and hang them up in the area where the pet was last seen. Sometimes, no matter how much you use social media or websites to report your lost pet, flyers can be the one thing that actually reunites you.
