Re-Home My Pet

We support re-homing your pet on your own, and we know how hard it can be. Whether you simply don’t want to surrender your pet to our shelter or live outside our county, we want to make the process as easy as possible.

Pro-Tips for re-homing

  • Photos are your pet’s first best impression! Make sure to have good lighting, limit clutter in the background, clear images, and take several of the pet in various positions or activities
  • Take a video of the pet being themselves!
  • Provide the most common information adopters are looking for:
    • Name
    • Sex
    • Age
    • If they are spayed or neutered (fixed)
    • Breed(s)
    • Weight
    • Vaccines they have had
    • Any medical history or concerns
    • Any behavior history or concerns
    • If they are potty and/or crate trained
    • If they are good with dogs, cats, and kids
    • Essentially, think of all the things you would want to know if you were adopting the animal
    • Most important: be honest!
  • Have the animal updated on their vaccines and spayed or neutered
  • Get their information out there and seen! Scroll down for some options.

To charge a fee or not?

It really is up to you if you want to charge a fee. Whatever the fee you choose, adopters are looking for value. They are more willing to pay a fee if the animal is healthy, up to date on vaccines, and already spayed or neutered. But expect to get only a fraction of the cost you invested in the animal from an adopter. Throw in some goodies, too, to sweeten the deal!

How to Choose

Picking a family can be the toughest part. You want the best for your pet, but being too picky can make it impossible to find a new home. If you have time, by all means, go all in. But if you are in a position where you need a new home quickly, keep your list short to just the essentials.
